"Rainbands" is S.L.S.R.L.'s first exhibition as a contemporary art gallery in Bucharest, Romania. The gallery, an acronym for Salonul Lucrărilor Selecte ale Rețelei Lumii, meaning Salon of the World Network, presents Fatema Khalil, a Lebanese- and Egyptian-American artist. Khalil's work runs adjacent to the artist's practice in Islamic worship. Khalil's paintings, often depicting a glimmering moment of light, scintillating aurorae, or effervescent natural phenomena, pull at the sensation of worldly belonging. Khalil's paintings draw us closer to our inner universe and the infinite possibilities of perception. The artist finds the beauty in what tethers us to the natural world and seeks what may lie beyond it.
Fatema Khalil (b. 1998) lives and works in New York, US. Group exhibitions include "Trains Group Show," curated by Caroline Absher, Trains, Brooklyn (2025); "Friend of a Friend," curated by Tif XB and Lili Marto, Brooklyn (2024); and "PARALLEL//POST," Gristle Art Gallery, New York (2022).
