For week 13, we’re reading about Impressionism. We have a handful of extra texts - Robert Herbert’s “Method and Meaning in Monet,” 1979 and Hermann von Helmholtz’s “On the Relation of Optics to Painting,” 1876.
We have included an interview by Adam Curtis by Dean Kissick for Vice Magazine this week because it overlaps with what we’ve been studying the last few weeks - the formation of the “self” during the emergence of a democratized society in the mid-19th century.
