Art History Reading Group Week 2

This upcoming Thursday, we will be meeting at the gallery a little earlier than last week, at 17:00. We will go over last week’s text and cover themes of modernity, the Industrial Revolution, and the Enlightenment. This upcoming week’s reading is on the “Classical” paradigm. Classical art follows Rococo and is an art movement obsessed with moral and pure standards, striving toward an “idealized” form of beauty. The Classical/Neoclassical paradigm is useful for us to understand because the concept of “modernity,” while itself vague and subjective, is diametrically opposed to what is  considered “classic.” All readings will be uploaded Thursday.
